The original design was stitched on 28ct even weave linen, using two strands of floss over one thread. The finished design measures approximately 5"w x11.5"h, using the continental stitch and counted cross stitch. The continental stitch was used for the sky, sun, clouds, stream & grass. All remaining stitches used the counted cross stitch. One strand of floss is fine too. You can choose your favorite 28ct linen because the design covers the entire fabric. If you decide to use 30 ct linen or less, I recommend using only one strand of floss. You can also use a tent stitch instead of the continental stitch.
The French knots are for the baby blue jays in the apple tree. Apply the French knots after completing the stitches. This pattern is coded for DMC floss colors along with Gentle Art, and Weeks Dye Works. Both of the over dyes color floss are used only for the grass. I had purchased three to four skeins of the color Moss from Weeks Dye Works for the grass; otherwise one of all other floss was used.
